Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C. shareholders Steven T. Boell and Jacob M. Sitman, along with Univest Director of Human Resource, M. Theresa Schwartzer led a HR roundtable discussing the workplace impact of the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act.
“Medical Marijuana is big business in both Pennsylvania and the rest of the United States,” said Boell at the June 15th roundtable. “As more state laws are passed legalizing medical marijuana, employers are struggling with what the regulations mean for their drug and alcohol policies, among other concerns.”
In the interactive discussion, with more than 40 employers in the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce’s footprint, Boell, who leads the Firm’s medical marijuana industry practice group, provided an overview of the Act, including patient and physician certification procedures. Sitman, chair of the Firm’s employment & labor relations practice group then discussed the Act’s potential ramifications on employers.
“The situation for employers is still developing,” explained Sitman. “However, educating yourself on the nuances of the law is a first step to protecting your company from potential lawsuits or safety issues.“
