Marie K. McConnell, shareholder and attorney in the Firm’s Corporate, Business & Banking group, discussed the importance of understanding legal issues affecting nonprofit Board service at Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley’s “Project Blueprint” program on Wednesday, May 3, at Olympus Corporation of the Americas in Center Valley, PA. This is the second year in a row Ms. McConnell was asked to speak.
Project Blueprint is a leadership development program with the goal of increasing the number of ethnically diverse volunteers who serve on the boards of Lehigh Valley nonprofit organizations. The program spans six sessions and covers various topics. The goal of Project Blueprint is to help organizations develop boards that are more reflective of the culturally diverse communities they serve. The program includes all aspects of board service including understanding the legal guidelines and practices.
“Marie McConnell presented a well-rounded & thorough program to the class on the legal considerations for both the nonprofit and its board members,” said Karen Daly Smith, chief executive officer of the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. “She brought to light many of the practical applications of an actual board meeting setting. Our 2017 class will graduate 27 trained leaders to make an impact in our community.”
Marie K. McConnell’s practice focuses on commercial transactions, including entity selection, formation and restructures, nonprofit mergers and affiliations, commercial real estate and taxation. Ms. McConnell’s practice also concentrates on tax exemption hearings and tax assessment appeals.
