Maraleen D. Shields, shareholder of FLB’s Healthcare and Litigation & Trial Practice Groups, will be speaking at this month’s Lehigh Valley Health Information Management Association Educational Meeting. The event will be held at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Network Muhlenberg campus on June 8.
Speaking about “Patient Rights (& Provider Duties) Under HIPAA,” Ms. Shields aims to counsel health information professionals throughout Pennsylvania about patient rights under HIPAA and how they translate into responsibilities and liabilities for the healthcare providers. She will use real case examples and her in-depth knowledge of this regulation to emphasize her instruction.
Ms. Shields is a member of FLB’s Healthcare and Litigation & Trial Practice Groups. Her healthcare practice focuses on peer review and credentialing matters, licensing and professional board disputes, Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology and Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) compliance, the OIG exclusion program, and risk mitigation and event management. Through her litigation work, Ms. Shields has handled a wide array of matters including, healthcare business disputes, municipal liability, class action litigation, personal injury matters, and general complex litigation.
