Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C. (FLB) participated in the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Credit Unions’ annual Financial Reality Fair on Wednesday, April 20 at DeSales University in Upper Saucon Township.
The event taught 250 students from participating schools about budgeting and how to navigate the financial pressures from real-life scenarios.
“We’ve been a proud sponsor of the Reality Fair since its inception,” said Tim Charlesworth, shareholder and attorney in the Firm’s Corporate, Business and Banking group. “As proud supporters of local credit unions, we enjoyed collaborating on this event to help educate students about their financial future.”
“The typical high school student is not concerned about managing a budget, but it’s important that they learn this vital life skill before they graduate,” said Jennifer Bruce, marketing director of the Firm. “This event opened students’ eyes to the reality of expenses they’ll face as adults and helped them understand the importance of budgeting.”
Before the event, students chose a profession from a list and were assigned a salary, along with the student-loan amount from their college education. Students received budgeting worksheets and toured various booths to learn how to balance different day-to-day expenses with their assigned income.
Ms. Bruce was stationed with Mr. Charlesworth and Mike Nesfeder (another FLB Shareholder) at the Fair’s Housing Booth, where students learned the costs of utilities, rent and more.
