Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C. (FLB) led a seminar for local businesses discussing trademarks and the legal benefits, strategies and concerns associated with them on Thursday, November 19. Speaking at Ben Franklin/TechVentures in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Douglas Panzer, an intellectual property attorney for the Firm, spoke about registering, maintaining and enforcing trademarks for small business owners, and provided tips for allowing trademark law to drive brand development.
“Entrepreneurs who venture into a market without proper diligence regarding trademarks risk costly, lengthy and distracting legal battles – battles whose costs could shutter a small business in a matter of months,” explained Panzer.
In the interactive discussion, Panzer spoke with attendees about what a trademark is, how it relates to brands/marketing and the importance of registering a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). From the start to end process of registration, to addressing the costs associated with trademark registration, Mr. Panzer advised attendees on the proper steps to take in order to be legally protected.
