Jacob D. Sitman and David M. Steckel of the firm’s Employment Law & Labor Relations team will participate in a virtual panel discussion with Lehigh Valley Business (LVB) addressing the recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) vote to ban the use of noncompetition agreements and new Department of Labor (DOL) rules on overtime on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.
Entitled “What FTC’s Noncompete Ban Means for Business and How to Prepare for the New Rules on Overtime,” the virtual event invites Jake and David to share their decades of insights with local businesses to help them better understand and comply with these changes. Seasoned HR professional Jackie Plunkett of Clear HR Solutions will moderate the discussion.
With the FTC rule taking effect in four months unless blocked by legal challenges, the discussion will center around:
- Details on the ruling
- Potential impact on employers
- What the timeline might be for implementation
- Implications for non-disclosure agreements and other restrictive covenants
- What legal challenges are expected
The long-awaited update to the federal overtime rule is expected to take effect this summer, and will significantly increase the salary threshold for overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. FLB’s attorneys will explain who qualifies, what steps employers must take – including reviewing employee classifications and assessing financial and morale impacts, and potential legal challenges.
